50 years ago, Donlar Construction was founded by Larry Dotte and Don Kainz, who met while working together for a large local construction firm. Their entrepreneurial spirit led them to combine their talents and start their own venture. Thus, Donlar Construction was created with their first project being the Stearns County Courthouse 3rd Floor Remodeling with Larry as project manager and Don as superintendent. From the beginning, Donlar has focused on projects that improved our communities.
Today, Donlar’s legacy is carried on by Jon Kainz, who is the second-generation owner.
Donlar has grown from a 2-person team to a solid organization of project managers, superintendents, field crews and support staff that now number close to 80. The company continues to plan and construct community-based projects for both public and private owners. Our territory has expanded from the St. Cloud and Twin Cities areas to the Upper Midwest 5-state region.
The various sectors of construction include Education (PreK-12 & Higher), Civic, Commercial, Healthcare, Industrial, Tribal and Worship. Each project we complete ultimately is grounded in our core values of Dedication, Teamwork, Integrity, constantly Striving for Perfection, and Respect of everyone we work with both mentally and physically.
Our team celebrates the legacy of our first fifty years and looks forward to the next fifty years of Improving People’s Lives by Building Better Communities.
